Computer Skills

What is it?

The emphasis of this course is on basic keyboarding skills and computer programs. Participants will spend time learning about the tools in Microsoft Office, including Word and PowerPoint and discussing internet usage and online safety. We will also be using a program called Mavis Beacon: Teaching Typing program, since it is very individualized and works at your child’s pace. Mavis Beacon gives auditory and written instructions, so reading ability is not prerequisite to success in this program.

Program Overview?

1. How to copy and paste

2. How to insert/ use text boxes, charts and clip art

3. How to use bullet points and numbering systems

4. How to adjust letter styles, sizes and fonts

5. Internet usage

6. How to underline, italicize and bold fonts

7. How to create a PowerPoint slide show (inserting text and pictures, changing slides, etc.)

8. How to change spacing in word documents

9. Online safety and social media

Program Structure:

  • 8 sessions, 1 hour a week for 8 weeks
  • Junior section: Grades 1-4
  • Senior Section: Grades 5-8


  •  Program held in Brampton and Mississauga satellite schools

How do I register?

1. Complete the registration form and submit via email or fax to the Programs Coordinator Amanda Partab, apartab@ldapr.ca

2. After we receive your registration form, we will connect with you to process a payment over the phone

3. Allow a minimum of 5-7 business days to process registration and payment

4. Once everything is processed, you will receive a confirmation letter via email with the time. session dates, facilitator information, and location.
