Be part of the amazing fun we will have this summer!!

New for the summer of 2023, LDAPR is offering an innovative, full-day Summer Camp, our F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Summer camp! F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Summer Camp will offer a fun, creative and supportive summer camp experience for neurodiverse children between 6 and 12 years of age.

Our F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Summer Campers will experience both outdoor activities and access to LDAPR’s new, air-conditioned, indoor program space for cooling and space to play when the weather isn’t friendly.

Each group of 3 summer campers will have their own LDAPR-trained Summer Camp Counsellor working with them. Our Summer Camp Counsellors will ensure that all camp programming is shaped specifically to meet each camper in their group exactly where they are. We understand that children with learning differences have a variety of unique needs and this camp is created especially for them!

If your child is between 6 and 12, has a learning disability and needs that bit of extra support to participate in fun summer camp activities and develop new social skills, this camp is for them!

The focus of LDAPR’s new 2023 F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Summer Camp is to provide a fun, engaging experience for your child (children) where they can feel good simply being themselves!

Reading, Math and Spelling Support

Reading Rocks

LDAPR staff tutors delivering Reading Rocks, a data-driven, outcomes-tested reading intervention program designed by Brock University’s Dr. John McNamara, Reading Rocks is specially designed for children with learning challenges. Reading Rocks program is designed for students in Grades 1 to 8 who are performing a minimum of one year behind in the area of literacy due to a diagnosed, identified, or suspected reading disability (dyslexia). Your child will work one-on-one with a LDAPR-trained tutor to improve their literacy skills such as phonics principles, sight word knowledge, and reading fluency. Reading Rocks sessions are taught using a combination of direct instruction and engaging literacy games and activities.

Jump Math

JUMP Math is a specialized math literacy program created specifically for children with learning differences. It is designed for children in Grades 1 to 8 who are performing a minimum of one year behind in the area of math due to a diagnosed, identified, or suspected math disability (dyscalculia), and who are showing signs of math anxiety. Your child will work one-on-one with an LDAPR-trained Jump Math tutor to build their foundational math skills. Sessions are taught using a combination of direct instruction and engaging math games and activities. Students are also able to set goals and visualize their progress throughout the program in order to foster math confidence.

Orton-Gillingham

The Orton-Gillingham Approach was created by Dr. Samuel Torrey Orton, Anna Gillingham and Bessie Stillman in the 1930’s to remediate the difficulties associated with dyslexia. The Orton-Gillingham Approach teaches the structure of the English language to students of all ages, so that they can learn the code and how to read. What was once a seemingly arbitrary and confusing system becomes predictable and clear. The student is empowered by the knowledge gained. The Orton-Gillingham Approach uses a structured lesson plan involving all three senses: visual, auditory and kinesthetic/tactile. The curriculum proceeds from the simple to the complex and from the predictable to the unpredictable.
